On December 16th 2019 Rap Interiors was delighted to be invited to a very special Christingle Service at Wateringbury School, Maidstone. The invite came after Rap asked the school to support its “Helping the Homeless at Christmas” charity this year, which is being run alongside four local charities: The Salvation Army, Maidstone Day Centre, Lily Smith House and Hungry Hearts for the Homeless.
Wateringbury School Foundation Governor and church member Kate Millar organised the Christingle event, which this year was linked to Maidstone homeless charities to provide Christmas dinners and essential gifts for the men and women. A hugely generous amount of gifts were dropped at the school office which included chocolates, gloves, socks, rucksacks, thermal mugs, sleeping bags, tents, ladies tights, scarves, and washbags with personal items. On the day itself they were also asked to bring in fresh produce such as potatoes, carrots and sprouts.
The Christingle service was incredibly special and the children were reminded of the importance of giving. The school also talked about where the generous donations were going and how they would improve someone else’s life during the difficult winter period.
A Christingle is a symbolic object used in the Advent services of many Christian denominations. Christingle means ‘Christ Light’ and is used to celebrate Jesus Christ as the “Light of the World”. Christingles are made from oranges decorated with red tape, sweets and a candle.
Finally, we would like to offer a huge thank you to the parents, children and staff at Wateringbury School for their generous donations to the homeless people of Maidstone. The gifts will undoubtedly make their Christmas a little less difficult this year.
