Our client wanted an improved reception and waiting area for staff and visitors to the school. Using our in-house team we designed and suggested a layout for the reception area that would be practical and functional whilst displaying a calm yet vibrant feel to those entering the building.
Allowing for secure access to the school we created a new “holding” area as it enabled staff to have full surveillance of everyone entering the school without putting themselves at risk of potential danger.
One problem the school faced was the existing office hatch which was the perfect height for the students to speak to staff but was too low for parents wanting to speak to school personnel. We resolved this by enlarging the existing sliding hatch which also enabled staff to have a greater view through to those entering and leaving the building.
New entrance matting, a new shop front and door with DDA Windows completed the small build works.
Finally with no current access into the main reception area for wheelchair users, the future proofing works we had put in place would allow for a smooth transition onto phase two where Disabled access would be improved.
Overall we created a light, friendly and welcoming school reception area for Barming Primary School so that the staff felt more comfortable and safe to work in.
