In this month’s ‘Day in the Life’ blog, we speak to our marketing manager Chris Sparham. Whether you’re interested in a career in marketing or simply want to see what life is like working for an award winning interior fit out company, Chris will give you an interesting insight here.

Summarise what life is like being a marketing manager for an interior fit out company

The role is very varied actually. It involves writing blogs, case studies and PR content; posting on social media channels; monitoring our web performance using Google Analytics; running keyword ranking reports; and even photographing projects. Then of course there’s all the other admin work that comes my way!

Ultimately, much of my working day in centred on driving traffic to the website to boost our search engine ranking. The commercial fit out sector is really competitive so it is very rewarding at the end of the week when we see a positive change in our keyword rankings.

What is your favourite part of working for an interior fit out company?

As much as I like the copywriting side of things, I really enjoy taking photographs of thecompleted projects. I have even taken an architectural photography course to enhance my skills.

I must admit when I first started I had no idea how complicated it is to take pictures of fit out projects. I took some rotten photographs early on so I’ve definitely learnt the hard way!

What have been your project highlights so far?

There are a couple of projects I’m very fond of. On a personal level the Shiro London fit out was a good one because I felt it was a turning point in terms of my photography skills.

In terms of the project I feel is the most impressive I would have to say the Simpsons Wine Estate design and fit out project. The ingenuity demonstrated by our space planning team to transform a disused mezzanine floor into a state of the art winery, office and visitor facility was incredible.

Of course, being the guy who writes the case studies I learn a lot about the in-and-outs of the project. The Rap Interiors team never cease to amaze me with what they can achieve.

What is the most challenging part of being a marketing manager?

In order to keep pushing for a high search engine position, you need to keep driving traffic to the website. This means I am constantly busy thinking of new ways to keep the website busy. Thankfully we’ve got a good marketing team here so we all contribute ideas.

What are your hopes for the future?

I’ve recently taken a course on Google SEO so I’m hoping to bring some new ideas to the table. Having finished the architectural photography course as well I’d like to see some improvement in that area. Then the next step for me is to master AdWords!
