Rap Interiors is proud to announce it will be working alongside Holy Family Catholic School in a bid to raise money for Heart of Kent Hospice. Schools across Maidstone have been invited to take part in the fundraiser, which has been organised by Heart of Kent Hospice Chief Executive Sarah Pugh.

To help raise funds, Rap has pledged to donate £2 for every student who takes part in an Elmer the Elephant themed poetry competition. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Elmer the Elephant, it is one of the most iconic and widely read children’s book series of all time, selling over 10 million copies worldwide.

Why Elmer the Elephant?

We all know that elephants never forget, and therefore there is a poignant connection to Heart of Kent Hospice. After all, a hospice is a place where memories are made and where many people return to remember their loved ones.

The poetry competition is part of a wider charity campaign which will also see artists paint up to 50 Elmer the Elephant statues before sending them out to auction to raise funds. Throughout summer 2020, the statues will be planted around Maidstone, creating a spectacular free public art display for locals to enjoy. Called ‘Elmer’s Big Heart of Kent Parade’, the parade will be on show from 20 June to 23 August.

The schools will also receive a baby Elmer to paint, decorate and exhibited on the trail. Once the display is over, the herds of baby Elmers will be returned to schools so they can keep them as a lasting legacy.

Why We Are Getting Involved

Holy Family Catholic School’s representative Mellissa Barrington approached Rap Interiors to get involved in the fundraiser. Weeks earlier, the school helped Rap with its own charity fundraiser to feed homeless people in Maidstone at Christmas. With the help of the school, which donated boxes of food, Rap was able to make 360 meals, making the campaign a huge success.

Rap Interiors was of course happy to oblige and set to coming up with an idea to help raise funds. After throwing around plenty of suggestions, the Rap team decided upon the poetry challenge, pledging to donate £2 for every child who enters.

About Heart of Kent Hospice

Heart of Kent Hospice has been providing outstanding care to people living with a terminal illness in Maidstone, Aylesford, Tonbridge, Malling and surrounding areas since 1991. The hospice cares for over 1,500 patients and their families each year.

Good Luck to All the Poetry Entrants!

Rap Interiors is delighted to be involved in this fantastic campaign; the team is looking forward to reading the poetry entries.
