After missing out on Clerkenwell Design Week for a couple of years due to the pandemic, it was a pleasure to return this year for what was an incredible event. The exhibitors certainly did not disappoint, with a vast array of innovative office furniture solutions and workplace products on display.

In this blog, we look into some of the trends and highlights that caught our eye over the course of the exhibition. Read on and be inspired!

Team-Centric Furniture

Connection is always a go-to place for our office interior designers, and its latest furniture product line is a sight to behold. While Connection offers a range of furniture for different purposes, our designers were particularly impressed with the team-centric products:

Platform by Connection

In our recent office design trends 2022 blog, we spoke about how the rising popularity of auditorium and bleacher seating. To meet the demand, Connection has developed its own range of auditorium seating named “Platform”.  With its easy-to-configure design, Platform allows companies to tailor the layout to suit their space and unique needs.

Connection also displayed its “Hive” range, which is a modular furniture collection that can facilitate a multitude of working practices. We particularly liked the curved model with its accompanying monitor, which is ideal for making group work more fun and engaging.

Wellbeing Meets Sustainability

Over at Flokk Furniture, we saw a range of furniture that ticked the boxes for both wellbeing and sustainability. Among the range on display was the classic “Hag Capisco”, which has since been updated to include a new lightweight model.

The Hag Capisco range is a form of agile seating, which is a way of keeping your body moving whilst seated. The benefits include improved posture, strengthened back and core muscles and a reduced feeling of strain associated with a sedentary lifestyle.

The Capisco’s saddle seat (named so after a horse’s saddle) offers a number of ways to vary your posture and can be adjusted for easy use with a standing desk. Add to that the fact that both models are made using recycled materials, and you can see why the Capisco still a popular choice for businesses.

Multi-Purpose Furniture

There was plenty of innovation on display at Clerkenwell, including this exciting new storage and display unit from regular exhibitors Mobili. Innovation is nothing new for Mobili however; just take a look at the company’s “Box” range, which includes both storage and soft seating in the same configuration.

Another feature that was gaining plenty of attention was the hybrid table/whiteboard models from Wilkhahn. These mobile, flexible can be set up for workshops, meetings, training sessions and any kind of group work, making them ideal for companies that actively promote collaboration.

In addition to Mobili and Wilkhahn (and a host of others), we loved the range presented by Italian manufacturer Dieffebi. Among the highlights was a pedestal/seat hybrid, which offers a great way to facilitate ad-hoc meetings around the office whilst saving space.

Pods for Maximum Productivity

We saw a wide range of office pods at Clerkenwell this year, and with more companies embracing agile working it’s little wonder! If you’re unfamiliar with agile working, it’s where businesses offer employees a number of “work zones” for particular tasks, whether it be quiet working, collaboration or Zoom chats.

One company that caught our attention was Max Furniture, which displayed a multitude of acoustic pods specifically designed for the “office of tomorrow”.  The Ege range, for example, offers “room-in-room” spaces for meetings, video conferencing, phone conversations and work that requires deep concentration.

The range at Meavo, which offers affordable office phone booths that are “built for London”, also impressed us. Make sure you check out the company’s London range, which includes The Soho, The Camden, The Shoreditch and The Hoxton!

For a cool addition to pods, Hush Office presented its attachable Green Wall. You can install a multitude of plants into the Green Walls, which can help to remove volatile substances that sometimes get into the air we breathe.

Booths for Inner Peace

Since returning to work following the worst of the pandemic, there has been a lot of talk about how we can bring teams back together for the better. However, one thing that we could not overlook at Clerkenwell was the vast selection of furniture for independent working:

Take the Peacework booth by Connection, which proved to be extremely popular with visitors on the day! Designer Hilary Birkbeck made the booth for users who require a tranquil space to help them escape a hectic office environment.

What’s more, it is made from lightweight PET/Felt materials derived from post-consumer waste sources, making it a sustainable alternative to traditional office seating.
