Rap Interiors had a great day at The Leigh Academies Trust Careers Convention at the Longfield Academy. We got the chance to tell students about what life is like working for an office fit out company, the different roles that are available to them, and how some of our apprentices and students on work experience have gone on to secure full time jobs.

Speaking To The Office Interior Designers And Project Managers Of The Future

We spoke to students studying a range of subjects, and explained how the skills they are acquiring now could set them up for a career in interior design and construction. For example, we met many product design students, who could one day be a great asset to an office fit out company with their ability to think creatively.

We also spoke about how we are great advocates of work experience and apprenticeships, and did plenty of name-dropping in regard to our own success stories. Take Ciara Rogan, who started out doing work experience and is now one of our dedicated office interior designers. We were quick to point out her first Rap project, which was the stunning enchanted forest library at Southmead Primary School.

Conor Fox is another apprenticeship success story, who is now a full time estimator and buyer. To read about his apprenticeship story, from his first week at Rap to his achievements so far, check out his interview here. There are a range of jobs available in our industry, and other opportunities we spoke about included digital marketing, subcontracting, health & safety management, accounting and logistics.

Rap’s Recent Award

Rap Interiors have recently been awarded for our contribution towards engaging young people in the workplace. We are delighted to be presented with this prestigious award from the Kent and Medway Guild, and aim to carry on our hard work to encourage young people to get into construction.

A Word On The Importance Of Careers Conventions

“Students need to understand the range of options that are available to them while they’re making their decision for the next step of their education, whether that be the academic route in A-Levels or going off to college or doing an apprenticeship.”

Lesley Tannock, Career Advisor at Leigh Academies Trust

“Careers fairs are a great place to network with companies and open your mind up the opportunities available. I would highly recommend them to students looking to get their foot in the door of a company. You never know, it could lead to full time employment.”
