Freedom from Abuse Campaign Gets Underway

Who Julie and Co are Working with

The ladies will be liaising with four charities that help victims of domestic abuse. These include the following:

Rising Sun

Based in Kent, the Rising Sun Domestic Violence and Abuse Service is a charity addressing domestic violence and providing services for adults, children and families. The charity has helped countless women and children over the years and celebrated its 40^th anniversary in 2019.

Oasis Refuge Support

Oasis provides domestic abuse services in East Kent, Medway and North Kent. Since opening the refuge in 1994, it has supported thousands of people with a recovery-focused approach. Its vision is to see a world free from abusive relationships.

Dogs Trust

Dogs Trust is the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, caring for 15,000 dogs each year through a network of rehoming centres in the UK. The network will be raising money for the Dogs Trust’s Freedom Project, which is a fostering service for people fleeing domestic abuse and going into refuge. The service has been running for 16 years and has helped over 1,500 people.

NSPCC Medway

The NSPCC is the UK’s leading children’s charity. It provides therapeutic services to help children move on from abuse, as well as supporting parents and families in caring from their children. It helps professionals make the best decisions for children and young people and supports communities to help prevents abuse from happening in the first place.

What the Donations Will Be Used for

Julie and co have teamed up with Kent Community Foundation to ensure the donations will be distributed accordingly. To get an idea of how the money can be used, please read of the following:

• £15 could pay for a set of pyjamas and underwear for a child who has fled violence.
• £20 can buy a set of plates, bowls and cutlery for a young mum moving in/out of sheltered accommodation.
• £30 could provide an hour of counselling for a child or mother to help deal with their trauma.
• £40 will pay for the costs of fostering a dog for a month.
• £50 can buy arts and crafts needed for one of our children’s recovery programmes or a kitchen starter kit for a family resettling from refuge.
• £100 can fund a fun day out for children and young people who have lived with domestic abuse or a pre-loved bed and new mattress for a client resettling.
• £150 could pay for 10 hours of counselling to help someone recover from the trauma they’ve experienced.
