You might have had to make the difficult decision to send your employees home to work this week, to minimise social contact. We understand the difficulty this might bring, being a small business ourselves, and also how the unfamiliarity of working from home might affect your employee’s. But we can assure you, you have done the right thing by putting their safety, health and wellbeing first.
So we wanted to share our tips on how your employees can bring the office antics home so they can still work effectively, and efficiently to ensure a productive working day.

Have a designated work space

Don’t work from your PJ’s in your bed. Get up and dressed as if you were going to work and head to a space in your home that is away from distractions. Even if you don’t have an actual office, or even a desk, clear a space that allows you enough room to work comfortably. This might be difficult with children running around and adhering to their structured day too, but schedule that time in to ensure there is routine still to follow.

If you and your partner are both working from home, try working in different rooms so you’re not in each others pockets all day, morning, noon and night. This means when you reconnect for lunch and dinner you will have things to chat about just like a regular working day.

Take Breaks

Taking regular breaks is crucial to maintain your concentration and focus on the days’ tasks. It also allows you to get up and move around, like you usually would in your office environment, and to give those limbs a stretch if the luxury of your ergonomic chair has been replaced by a dining room table chair.

Utilise one of the four reasons we can leave the house for a form of exercise and go for a walk, run or cycle to break up your day. Our mental health and wellbeing, in general but especially during this time in isolation, is so important to look after and the NHS recommend regular exercise to boost your mood.

Home office set up

Many businesses are considering keeping their staff at home but they need to consider how they have been working during lockdown. Working from the kitchen table is not great for posture or productivity. If an employee goes to work ” at their home desk ” they will be in work mode.

We can provide a quick solution to getting your staff set up at home for home desk situations.

Group chats

When in an office, your colleagues are usually at an arm’s reach so getting those all important questions answered, and just having a general chit chat will be missed over the next 3 weeks.

At Rap, each department has their own WhatsApp group and we also have a whole company chat too so we are kept all up to date. This means every employee has access to the important information that they need, nearly as instantly as if they were in the office, as well as the latest memes too!

We are also having daily Zoom meetings to make sure we know what each other are up to and to keep in touch with those who are living by themselves so they get some social contact at least (via screen only of course!)

Staff Training

If you are working from home, or have a task force who are, and could benefit from some virtual online group coaching, we recommend Jacqui Bishop of BB Directions Ltd who is helping 1-2-1 and through interactive webinars for large corporate.

Jacqui can be contacted on jacqui@bddconsult.com or mobile 07957 691990
