Office Refurbishment, Kent – Project Brief

Building on our prior work in 2017, the client contacted us again to optimise their open plan office. This involved improving workspace functionality, expanding the breakout area and boardroom, and carrying out a general design refresh to foster a more welcoming environment.

Reception Area

To give the reception area a lift, we installed luxury vinyl tile (LVT) flooring and new LED lights. The flooring makes the area look cleaner, warmer and more modern, while the lighting helps to illuminate the space and create a welcoming ambiance.

Office Areas

Office space planning was key in improving the functionality of the main open plan workspace. Our designers reconfigured the layout to separate the main office and hotdesking areas, which involved placing partitions between the zones and repositioning the floorboxes accordingly.

For consistency, we ran the LVT flooring from the reception to the office areas, creating pathways into the dedicated areas. We also specified skirting and door frames to match the existing design.

To complete the office refurbishment, we laid modern flecked grey carpet tiles and installed TVs for internal communications.

Boardroom

Prior to the works, the client had two small meeting rooms separated by a sliding folding wall. As the client wanted to create one large spacious boardroom, we removed the sliding folding wall to open up the space.

Furthermore, we replaced a glass pane in the centre of the rear meeting room with a solid partition. This ensures the boardroom has more privacy while preventing distractions from the adjoining hotdesking area.

Lastly, we laid new carpet tiles and installed TVs to facilitate virtual meetings.

Breakout Area

Like the meeting room, the client wanted to create a larger breakout area for its hardworking employees. This entailed removing a wall that sectioned off a meeting room from the existing breakout area.

Within the breakout area, we installed new flooring throughout, while the client brought in its own furniture. This space also includes a gaming area, helping to boost team morale and encourage connection building.

Next to this, we installed a new sage green tea point with wood-effect worktops. This ties in well with the LVT flooring, giving the space a fresh, modern look that’s consistent with the rest of the office.

Towards the rear of the tea point was a large boiler that had previously been boxed in. To provide access to the tea point boiler, we installed a large access panel and built out the wall at the rear to keep this neat and flush. This replaced the the previous boxed-in structure and created a near-invisible solution.
