Client Background

Questor is a UK insurance company that specialises in vehicle hire, motor excess, travel and gadgets. Their mission is to provide clients with easy to understand insurance products and great customer service.

Client Brief

Questor wanted Rap’s interior designers in Maidstone to create a working environment that was appropriate for their team of young employees. Therefore, the new office needed to be vibrant, fun and modern.

Rap’s Design Solution

The office consisted of a number of spaces, including an open plan workspace, breakout area, kitchen, manager’s office and communications room.

To create a vibrant office environment, Rap’s office interior designers introduced a bold colour scheme throughout. They specifically chose Questor’s brand colours – blue and purple – to reflect their company identity, along with a bright, uplifting lime.

In the open office space, Rap painted the building’s columns in the aforementioned colour scheme for added aesthetic interest. The office chairs also sported this colour scheme and were teamed with distressed stone desks.

With the view of creating a fun workplace, Rap implemented a ping pong table, drinks fridge, bean bag chairs and an artificial grass patch into the breakout space. This area would be essential in providing the staff with a place to relax and re-energise – an important aspect for Questor.

The kitchen would also give staff a place to unwind. To make it hospitable and suitable for eating lunch, the design featured a tea point with a water boiler, bean bag chairs and a range of dining furniture.

Like the kitchen, Rap’s fitted the communications room with a glass front to maintain an open look. Within the comms room, a conference table and TV were introduced to ensure it was appropriate for collaboration and presentations.

A smaller glass-fronted room was also created beside the manager’s desk for ad-hoc meetings. For this, Rap implemented a black oak frame jig table and easy-stack sled frame chairs.

Other key features of Rap’s design included a whiteboard vinyl graphic for brainstorming, custom glass manifestation, artificial plant displays and staff lockers.

Thank You for Choosing Rap Interiors

Following the fit out works by Rap, Questor’s workspace is now suitable for their young and busy team. With its comfort, practicality and aesthetic qualities, the workspace will go some way in improving retention and productivity, which will help Questor to achieve their long-term goals.

A Word with Andrew Lawrence, Questor Chief Executive Officer

What did you hope the new workplace environment would do for Questor?

“First of all we wanted the workplace to be high impact. The business is looking more and more at corporate clients, so the ability to impress them when they visit is quite important to us. In actual fact we’ve had a number of high profile insurers come and visit since we’ve moved in, and it’s done exactly what we expected it to do.

“The other thing was to create a hospitable working environment for staff.  When we’re looking for new staff we want them to they be wowed by the environment. Attracting good quality talent is really important, and the working environment is a big part of that as well as a competitive salary.”

It looks like a really fun working environment?

“Yes, being an insurance broker visitors expect something completely different. Rap’s office designers have helped to create more of a fin-tech environment here.”

Has the new workplace environment improved your day-to-day working practices?

“Having a breakout area means people can get away from their desks, which is great for communication. For example, when I’m eating lunch in the breakout area I speak to staff from every department, which can only be a good thing.”

Do you think the new workplace environment will help you to move forward as a company?

“I think it will definitely help. Today we’re dealing with bigger corporate companies and I think it’s important that we have credibility. I’m really confident that in terms of projecting Questor as a serious partner the office will play a big part.”

Has Rap Interiors fulfilled your expectations?

“Yes, absolutely. 100%.”

Would you recommend Rap to other businesses?

“Yes – I’ve already done so on Twitter!”
