National Volunteers Week

1-7 June 2020

Volunteers week is an annual celebration for the millions of people volunteering their time and great efforts throughout the UK. Unfortunately, the usual timeline of what would happen during this week has shifted due to the impact of COVID-19 but that hasn’t resulted in the volunteers being forgotten.

We are reflecting this week on the efforts of those we have worked with, who have volunteered their time and to thank them for their commitment…

NHS

While installing Emergency ITU Bed Bay Systems at two NHS community hospitals, we worked alongside fantastic volunteers who dedicated their time to support the NHS with the demanding response the pandemic had caused. The commitment has been three times higher than initially targeted which is an admiring response from the public to this crisis.

Trekking Nepal for Charity

Commercial Director Martyn was planning to trek the Annapurna region in Nepal to raise money for Abigails Footsteps, a child bereavement charity. He was up for the challenge and an experience he would never forget but a lot of his personal time and great dedication would have gone into this event which has been rescheduled due to the pandemic.

Helping the Homeless

Design Director Julie takes time out every year to Help the Homeless at Christmas with last year being a fantastic success, providing an incredible 360 dinners for the homeless. With the help of several contributors donating food, money, essential items and presents, the spirit of Christmas really does encourage a giving character.

Dementia Cafe

Hosted by Maplesden School and their health and social care students who volunteer to spend time with those who attend to talk, drink tea and eat cakes. We attended the first cafe and are sponsoring all future cafes so they can be held monthly. Unfortunately, the cafe is shut due to the COVID-19 pandemic but will reopen on Tuesday 7th July between 1pm-3pm.

Heart of Kent Hospice

We worked with Holy Family Catholic School to raise money for previous clients of ours, Heart of Kent Hospice. Students of the schools across Maidstone took part in the fundraiser of an Elmer the Elephant themed Poetry Competition. It was a trumping success with 7 winners who wrote wonderful poems and great feedback which you can read here.

Estimator Gavin

Gavin is a Scout Leader and has been continuing his duties in lockdown, while furloughed. Each week he has been sending out scouting activities and challenges for his pack to do, going LIVE on Facebook every Wednesday to stay in touch with them and attending Zoom Pack meetings every two weeks.

Rick, Julie and Otis

Directors Rick and Julie and office dog Otis have volunteered for the NHS, collecting and dropping off prescriptions for people in their community.

They have also helped a neighbour in their village who is vulnerable, delivering her paper daily.

Designer Scott

5th June is World Environment Day and Scott has volunteered to run 5k in June, raising money for the homeless aged 16-21 in Manchester and London. Unfamiliar with distance running, he will be pushing himself to achieve his own personal goal of running 5k while supporting a fantastic cause.

Designer Sarah

While furloughed, Sarah has signed up to the Innocent Smoothie’s Big Knit which raises money for Age UK. She has been sent a starter pack and is teaching herself how to knit via Youtube tutorials so that she can knit the Innocent Smoothie hats that go on the smoothie bottles later on in the year.
