Client Brief

Haringey Sixth Form College contacted us to create a cutting-edge learning centre for its students.

The upgrade included the creation of an IT suite, research area and breakout space; a design overhaul of the existing servery and presentation area; and additional works throughout the space to ensure it was functional.

Our Solution

In the centre of the room, our school interior designers demonstrated exceptional creativity by transforming a dead space into a visually-arresting breakout area. The design included chill-out booths with acoustic properties, a laminate bench table with heavy-duty metal legs and accompanying stools, a striking thunderbolt LED linear light, hanging acoustic panels and a breakfast bar-style IT area.

To create the IT suite, we installed a partition to form a divide between it and the breakout area. Within the newly created space, we laid more imitation grass, furnished the space with desks and chairs and added a school logo graphic. For a striking finishing touch, we installed a ceiling raft with a blue sky manifestation.

Prior to the works, the laptop station area consisted of mismatched furniture, a scruffy whiteboard, and a tired, drab carpet. To make the space more inviting and practical, we replaced the carpet with artificial grass and a vinyl ‘running track’, fitted noise-cancelling acoustic panels and implemented a new HD presentation screen.

The Result

Through working with our experienced design and project team, Haringey Sixth Form College now has a state of the art learning facility. Named the ‘Innovation Centre’, the new facility will make learning more fun for students and provide them with the skills they need to build towards a successful future.

A Word with Lisa Westray, Haringey Sixth Form College Vice Principal

What was your remit for the design?

We wanted ICT rich space that was innovative, motivational and bright. We also wanted to utilise the dead space that we had in the bistro area.

What is your favourite part of the design?

Our favourite aspect is the booths! The students have basically been in complete shock and awe. They love the colours and just think it’s awesome.

How will the space make a difference to the wider community?

As there’s a lot of regeneration taking place in Tottenham we’re hoping it will be used by community organisations for meetings and other activities. We’d also like to see it used as a work hub for teachers and staff during their downtime.

Has Rap Interiors met your expectations?

Rap Interiors have exceeded our expectations! I can honestly say I’ve got nothing bad to say. I’ve loved working with Rap; they really just ‘got us’ so I’ve got nothing negative to say whatsoever.

Would you recommend Rap Interiors to other schools?

Most definitely we would recommend Rap. For us it’s as much about the people we work with on projects like this. We found Rap really easy to work with; everybody was lovely and friendly, very down to earth, and you could just say what you thought and they listened. I’ve got nothing but great things to say.
