Haringey Sixth Form Classrooms

Client Brief

Having previously refurbished three maths classrooms in another area of the school, we were consulted again to update a further 28 classrooms in a similar design theme. The remit for the designs was to create practical, professional-looking classroom environments to prepare the students for life in the workplace. The large-scale works also needed to be completed within the six-week summer holiday period.

Our Solution

 In order to create professional-looking working environments, our school interior designers introduced the same design scheme that worked well in the previous classroom refurbishment projects. This included banks of robust desks where students could collaborate, acoustic panels to reduce noise pollution, presentation screens for multimedia learning, on-trend geometric feature walls for added aesthetic interest, and multicoloured carpet tiles to finish. Furthermore, our design team chose the orange and grey colours to reflect the college’s branding.

In order to meet the summer holiday deadline, we also had to carefully overcome a difficult structural obstacle. At one stage during the works, the project team was required to turn a gym area into three classrooms. However, the structural integrity of the floor had been damaged by people dropping heavy weights onto it, meaning the repair work could extend the timeframe. Subsequently, our project team and subcontractors worked tirelessly and intelligently to overcome this issue, ensuring that the agreed timeframe was not disrupted.

The Results

Through working closely with Rap’s design and project team, Haringey Sixth Form College now has a multitude of fit-for-purpose classrooms that will inspire students for years to come. The cutting-edge design scheme is consistent with the project brief for a professional aesthetic, while elements such as the acoustic panels and heavy-duty furniture solutions will ensure the space is robust and practical. Furthermore, the works were delivered on time and within budget, allowing the Haringey staff and students to begin lessons at the start of the new term.
