Haringey Sixth Form College contacted Rap Interiors to create a cutting edge learning centre for its students. The upgrade included the creation of an IT suite, research area and breakout space; a design overhaul of the existing servery and presentation area; and additional works throughout the space to ensure it was functional.
Prior to Rap Interiors’ arrival, the laptop station consisted of mismatched furniture, a scruffy whiteboard and a tired, drab carpet. To make the space more inviting, Rap replaced the carpet with artificial grass and a vinyl ‘running track’, fitted colourful acoustic panels to reduce noise pollution and implemented a new HD presentation screen.
For the research area design, Rap Interiors introduced standing desks with tablets for a contemporary aesthetic. These were flanked by sit-down computer desks, which were fixed to the new book shelf to provide additional classroom space.
3D Visual Before and After Comparison - Breakout Area
In the centre of the room, Rap’s school interior designers demonstrated exceptional creativity by transforming a vacant space into a visually arresting breakout area. The design included chill out booths with acoustic properties; a laminate bench table with metal frame legs and accompanying stools; a thunderbolt style LED linear light; and striking v-flap ceiling acoustic panels. In addition to these, Rap added a high level IT area with stools and a teacher’s desk with a modesty display.
Rap’s school space design expertise was required to make the servery more enticing for students. To fulfil this remit, Rap introduced a number of new features, including a Nelson Mandela wall graphic, a new servery front with decorative panels, modern lighting solutions and a new colour scheme to reflect the school branding.
3D Visual Before and After Comparison - IT Suite
To create the IT suite, Rap Interiors installed a partition to form a divide between it and the breakout area. Within the newly created space, Rap laid more imitation grass, furnished the space with desks and chairs and added a school logo graphic. For a striking finishing touch, Rap installed a ceiling raft with a blue sky manifestation.
In addition to the aforementioned design upgrades, Rap installed manifestation to glass in the corridor, installed power and data to facilitate the use of new electrical items, re-painted the space throughout and added fire signage to align with the current regulations.
Thank you for choosing Rap Interiors for your school refurbishment

A word with Lisa Westray, Haringey Sixth Form College Vice Principal
What was your remit for the design?
“We wanted ICT rich space that was innovative, motivational and bright. We also wanted to utilise the dead space that we had in the bistro area.”
What is your favourite aspect of the design?
How have the students reacted to the school refurbishment?
“Basically they’ve been in complete shock and awe. They love the colours and just think it’s awesome.”
How do you think the facility will help the local community?
“As there’s a lot of regeneration taking place in Tottenham we’re hoping it will be used by community organisations for meetings and other activities. We’d also like to see it used as a work hub for teachers and staff during their down time.”
Has Rap Interiors fulfilled your expectations?
“They’ve exceeded our expectations! I can honestly say I’ve got nothing bad to say. I’ve loved working with Rap; they really just ‘got us’ so I’ve got nothing negative to say whatsoever.”
Would you recommend Rap Interiors to other schools and colleges?
“Yes, most definitely. We’re actually looking to do more work with Rap.
“For us it’s as much about the people we work with on projects like this. Things are fine when everything’s going well, but if you get into problems and need to change things communication is key. In this regard we found Rap really easy to work with; everybody was lovely and friendly, very down to earth, and you could just say what you thought and they listened. I’ve got nothing but great things to say.”
