Client Brief

Rap Interiors were contacted by Brampton Manor Academy School to create more modern school interiors, which included brand new Music classrooms from the Old Media Study learning areas that were no longer needed because of changes in the curriculum.

Our Design Solution

We started with a school space design consultation and a site survey of various other classrooms, staff offices and washrooms throughout the school – proposing a  3- phased design and fit out solution for the Academy across multiple areas within the school.

Our in-house school interior design team worked with Brampton for 4 months and proposed various concepts with 2d space plans that would allow classrooms to accommodate around 30 students per class in a fresh, modern and practical learning environment.

Phase 1

For this phase the general remit was to close down the ‘Media Block’ and convert into a ‘Music Learning Zone’.  This would enable the moving of the existing school music rooms and thus giving space to create new ‘Humanities Classrooms’ in another area of the academy.

Details of the school works carried out are listed below.

The ‘Media Block’ school refurbishment consisted of:-

1no Large TV Studio
2no Teaching rooms
2no Media studios
2no School store rooms

Utilizing existing space, this was converted into the ‘Music learning zone’ giving 2 Additional classrooms and 5 Additional Music Practice rooms

The works consisted of acoustic partitions, ceilings, including glazed sections, sound proof door sets, joinery (doors, ironmongery, liners, frames, skirting’s architraves), decorations (walls, ceilings and timber work), flooring, lighting, power, data, air handling and heating.

Phase 2

Moving on to the fit out works on the Old Music Area.  We removed the old music practice rooms, store cupboards, year head office and outside store area.   This was then converted into 1 large new ‘Humanities classroom’ along with offices and a support staff room.

Details of the school refurbishment works we carried out are listed below.

The ‘Old Music Area’ school refurbishment consisted of:-

2No Music classrooms
2No Music stores
6No Music Practice rooms
1No Staff Office
1no Outside Store.

Utilizing the existing space, we converted this into the ‘Music learning zone’ to provide 1 additional large classroom, 4 Staff Offices.

The works consisted of external brickwork, external windows, acoustic partitions, plasterboard, ceilings, including glazed sections, sound proof door sets, joinery (doors, ironmongery, liners, frames, skirting’s architraves etc.), decorations (walls, ceilings and timber work), flooring, lighting, power, data, air handling, wet heating.

Phase 3

The final phase of this school fit out project was carried out during the summer holidays, the remit was to create 3 classrooms from space within the existing library, new conference suite for the Board of Directors and Trustees including tea point and WC, New staff WC’s including an additional 1 cubicle, 3 New Year Head offices, enlargement of the Languages classroom, Creation of an Art classroom, Training Room and New Prayer washroom.

Details of the work we carried out are listed below:-

Conversion of 2No Changing rooms to Training room.

Conversion of 1No cubicle into 2No for Staff toilets.

Conversion of 2No Year Head offices into 4No offices.

Conversion of existing empty space of Library into 3No classrooms.

Conversion of Old Shower areas into Art classroom and Pray washroom.

Conversion of Store Room, WC, Staff Office, and part Old Conference room into new Conference room with tea point and Executive WC.

Conversion of WC into WC Shower Room.

The school refurbishment works consisted of acoustic partitions plasterboard ceilings, including glazed sections, sound proof door sets, joinery (doors, ironmongery, liners, frames, skirting’s architraves etc.), decorations (walls, ceilings and timber work), flooring, lighting, power, data, air handling, wet heating, tiling, plumbing, extraction, tea point install.

The phased fit out works were carried out during term time and the summer holidays for a 5 week period, with us giving the area back to the school’s site management 1 week before the children returned so that staff had time to populate the areas with furniture and learning aids, books etc.

Overall we transformed this Academy’s interiors into a modern, bright and inspiring learning environment for the students and staff.

Since this project we have also worked on other various school interior design projects for Brampton Manor and their sister site Langdon Academy, London, from manifestation solutions to 6 more classroom design projects.
