Phase 1 was Travel, Tourism, teaching classrooms and washroom refurbishment and new fit out. To transform the facilities at the Dover campus to create a more modern, dynamic teaching approach after a £2.9 million investment.
Phase 1 was to carry out the school refurbishment and fit out works of the Hospitality and Tourism facilities on the 3rd floor. The brief to create a bespoke airport and airplane mock up area was delivered in partnership with JARE ATP installing elements of a Boeing 737 air cabin into the classroom, containing some of the planes original features and interiors which were salvaged from a previously functioning airplane. This was installed along with a mock up Airport style Waiting area, passport control, check-in customer facility and reception desk, enabling students to practice customer service skills within a life like environment. 4 main teaching rooms were built with additional storage areas for equipment will deliver the course.
Incorporating East Kent College branding colours into the school interior design. The walls were re-decorated including a corporate coloured feature wall in blue. The Academy Flooring was a mixture of funky Interface Transformations – Fern carpet in the classrooms and Polysafe Standard -Twilight and Silver Birch wood vinyl within the corridors and washrooms. New suspended ceiling was installed into all rooms on the 3rdfloor along with additional data cabling, trunking, skirting and flat panel LED lighting. The previous school ventilation system was also upgraded and improved.
The current school washrooms on the 3rd floor were also refurbished with new sanitary ware, plumbing, decorations and flooring. Phase 2 of the project was the school refurbishment of the Computing and Gaming facilities at Dover. Find out more about Phase 2 here.
