In today’s competitive landscape, the corporate office is more than just a place to work.
It’s a powerful tool for attracting talent, fostering collaboration, and projecting a company’s unique identity.

In this article, we explore ten corporate office design concepts and ideas that companies have used to gain a competitive advantage. Using case study examples, we delve into how these approaches are shaping workspaces in the corporate world.

From high-end luxury spaces to minimalist schemes and much more, you’ll find plenty of inspiration here. Read on to see the range of possibilities for your own corporate office design scheme…

Modern Industrial Meets Corporate Office Design

The modern-industrial look draws inspiration from old factories and warehouses. Typical features include raw materials like brickwork and concrete, exposed structural elements, pendant lights, and glass with black framework (known as Crittall).

Our client, a corporate insurance company based in Manchester, used the industrial look for its new office in the city centre. The design was inspired by Manchester’s industrial past, with key features including concrete columns, meeting rooms with black panel glass, and an exposed ceiling.

Crucially, our interior designers combined these elements with modern office features such as walls of foliage, a flecked herringbone carpet, and a range of new office furniture solutions. This ensured the office space design struck the perfect balance between old and new.

Classic High-End Corporate Office Design

Corporate office design needn’t be over-elaborate. For our client WeSoda, a classic corporate scheme was enough to create an inviting space that supported its unique working practices.

Crucially, our designers achieved a high end look while avoiding excess. This makes for a refined, high-quality aesthetic that perfectly embodies the company’s identity and culture.

With its practical, uncluttered design, the space has few visual distractions, helping to support focused work. Furthermore, the space includes multiple private offices where executives can double down on tasks and take important phone calls.

Other key features of the office space design include executive-grade desks and chairs, a large boardroom table with integrated power, elegant wood veneer doors, and multiple team settings.

Employee-Focused Corporate Design

Recognising the changing demands of today’s workforce, many corporate firms are embracing bolder, employee-focused workplace design schemes. The goal is to attract top talent in an age where flexibility has redefined what constitutes an appealing workplace.

Take our client Ward Security as an example. With walls decked in foliage, bleacher seating, ad-hoc collaboration zones, and a laptop lounge, the space transcends the typical open plan workplace associated with a corporate security firm.

As is the case with Ward Security, the key to this design scheme is choice. By giving employees alternatives to assigned workstations, they have far greater flexibility, making for an enhanced workplace experience.

‘Heritage’ Corporate Office Design

Last year, we saw a trend towards the ‘heritage’ corporate office design concept, with firms opting for high-end designs that communicate success, professionalism and affluence.

In the case of Ward Security, the company’s ‘heritage’ boardroom is characterised by luxury design details. These include rich timber and oak finishes, brass accents and luxurious velvet fabric. Furthermore, the integration of a wine fridge contributes to an atmosphere of sophistication.

The heritage design sets the perfect tone for ambitious companies as it inspires an aspirational mindset. This will prompt employees to contribute to the company’s ongoing narrative of success and excellence.

Luxury Corporate Office Design (AKA Hospitality Inspired Design)

Increasingly, corporate firms are adopting design principles associated with the hospitality industry. As we’ve mentioned, this shift is down to the evolving demands of today’s employees, who want more out of their workspace in the post-pandemic age.

Signal House in Washington D.C. exemplifies this trend. Though located in an area associated with corporate firms, its luxury interior design mirrors a hotel, featuring a gym, stylish décor, and spaces that emphasise comfort over a sense of power and authority.

This corporate office design concept will appeal to employees who travel regularly, whether for business or pleasure. As it’s designed to evoke the ambiance of boutique hotels, it will remind them of their favourite travel experiences, offering a familiar sense of comfort and sophistication.

On the subject of travelling, if you’re a national company with offices across the country, consider introducing a dedicated area where visiting employees can stop off and work. This approach not only provides a practical workspace for traveling staff but also promotes cross-regional networking, strengthening the company’s community.

‘Tenant-Ready’ Commercial Office Design

For landlords looking to attract a tenant with a commercial property, it’s important to provide a well-appointed office ready for immediate business operations. This helps to command a higher rental yield while giving tenants everything they need to boost their revenue.

Take the Riverbridge House office as an example. The landlord needed an experienced commercial fit out company to create a fully fitted out and furnished office to entice an ambitious, financially secure corporate tenant.

The design at Riverbridge includes two glass meeting rooms, an open plan workspace for a large team of employees, a breakout space, tea point and an eye-catching reception. This enabled the landlord to swiftly secure a suitable corporate tenant, fulfilling the brief and minimising the vacancy period.

Scandinavian Corporate Office Design

Scandinavian office design centres on creating an uncluttered, bright and calm workspace. As corporate offices are busy – and often stressful places, this is a great choice for a new design concept.

Key features of the Scandi look include light colour palettes, clean lines, natural materials like wood, and hints of biophilia. It also prioritises natural sunlight to create a serene setting that’s connected to the outdoors.

For an example of Scandinavian design, take a look at our recent London office refurbishment of Vestey Holdings’ office. With light wooden finishes, acoustic panel feature walls and planter troughs, the London-based firm has an inviting, calm and clutter-free office space conducive to focused work.

Reception Areas That Set the Right Tone

A reception area serves as the crucial first point of contact in corporate offices, instantly communicating a company’s identity and culture. More than just a waiting space, it’s a powerful tool for setting the right tone.

Typically, corporate companies like to convey a sense of professionalism and efficiency, as was the case with Ward Security. Perhaps the most striking feature of the reception is the bespoke desk, which was designed to give the illusion of levitation.

Over at Whitehead Monckton, we helped the law firm create an eye-catching reception area using LED lights. Look closely, and you’ll see that the suspended lighting and company logo share the same diagonal motif, delivering a compelling visual impact when visitors and clients arrive.

Client-Focused Office Zones

These days, many corporate companies have dedicated ‘broker’ areas for client meetings. This can be the difference between a deal being made and a high-value client walking away, making it a valuable addition to the office.

At Crowe UK, the Maidstone-based company introduced an open plan kitchen and breakout furniture to create a dedicated client space. This was specifically designed to look high-end for client interactions, with marble surfaces, feature lighting, and wine fridges.

Likewise, the Manchester-based insurance company we mentioned earlier introduced a broker area to its space. Key features include a stylish meeting room for negotiations and a dedicated area where clients can make calls.

Wellness-Inspired Office Elements

As we’ve covered, employee experience has become a key factor in informing office design decisions among corporates. This has given rise to wellness-inspired office design features that promote good mental and physical health.

At Crowe UK, we specified furniture for the office’s active zone, which the company wanted to promote a healthier workspace. The zone includes walking pads (similar to treadmills) and height adjustable desks, enabling employees to remain active while working.

From an aesthetic perspective, Ward Security’s office is a great example of wellness-inspired design. Living walls (aka vertical gardens) and furniture draped in foliage transform the space into a calming oasis, sending a positive message to employees.

10 Corporate Office Design Concepts and Ideas – Conclusion

As the demands of the modern workforce continue to evolve, these innovative approaches to office design provide a roadmap for corporate businesses seeking to empower employees and drive profitability.

Whether it’s crafting a space that inspires an aspirational mindset, creating client-focused zones that facilitate deal-making, or building enticing spaces for tenants, the key takeaway is that well-executed design contributes to success.

By investing in a new corporate design scheme or commercial refurbishment, you can yield tangible benefits and position your business for future growth.
